Grades of Teak Wood

Grades of Teak

Teak wood is graded by appearance, knots and wood quality

Grade A (Premium)

Teak Wood A-Grade is the most mature of all 3 grades. It is taken from the centre of the tree (known as the heart wood) and it generally grows for 30-50 years prior to being harvested. Charaterisically A-Grade wood has close grain and is a warm/honey colour with no white streaks. It has little or no knots and is rich in oil

Grade B

Grade B is also warm in colour but can also have some discolouration and streaking. It is not normally used in hand made products. Grade-B is generally "Semi-Machine" made, employing some form of machinery in furniture production. Grade B has more allowance for knots and imperfections.

Grade C

Grade C has a dark colour, mixed with a white colour in places. The white colour is sapwood. There is an allowance for dead knots and they may be on the top or bottom side. The type of wood is often used in outdoor furniture due to its "less polished" look. The joints are often not exactly fitted and are filled with epoxy to keep the furniture stable.

Unique Teak only uses the best quality premimum A-Grade Teak to create all of its furnishings.
